Welcome to the Department of Urology!

We are committed to excellence and improving everything we do. From the state-of-the-art patient care we provide, our highest caliber education program, and cutting edge research, we work together to turn discoveries into reality and improve the lives of our patients.

Our vision includes excellence in all three arms of academic urology:

1) Outstanding clinical care, with a personalized, patient–centered, and evidence-based approach. This includes streamlined patient access, multidisciplinary care, and the highest standards for quality and safety. We offer state-of-the art medical and surgical treatment in all aspects of adult and pediatric urology, including cancer, voiding dysfunction and incontinence, infections, stones, trauma, congenital anomalies, upper tract obstruction, and urinary tract reconstruction. We have expert surgeons in open, endoscopic and minimally invasive approaches to these conditions.

2) Excellence in basic science and translational research. We have investigators focused on the biology of prostate, kidney and bladder cancer, upper urinary tract obstruction, voiding dysfunction and inflammation. We work collaboratively with many other physicians and scientists in the Stanford community developing new and innovative urologic imaging and diagnostic techniques, trying to understand the basic biology of urologic cancers, and exploring new treatment algorithms for these conditions. We are rapidly expanding our clinical trials portfolio to offer the newest treatment options for patients with all stages of urologic cancers and other urologic conditions.

3) Outstanding education for the next generation of urologists. Stanford medical students and residents have the opportunity to train in a variety of clinical setting, and to experience the breadth of urologic medical and surgical care. Our residents have successfully competed for top fellowship positions in oncology, minimally invasive surgery and pediatrics, and a number have gone on to achieve leadership positions in academic urology around the country. We also provide ACGME accredited fellowship training in pediatric and female urology. We continuously work diligently to optimize the education experience for all of our residents, fellows and students.

I am looking forward to growing together with the Stanford Urology community along with our medical school and hospital partners as we move forward in this endeavor.
