Ekene Enemchukwu is the Editor of the Month for The Journal of Urology

Stanford Urology’s own, Ekene Enemchukwu, MD, is the Editor of the Month for The Journal of Urology- the official journal of the American Urological Association.

Dr. Enemchukwu’s academic journey began at a small high school in Mount Dora, Florida, and took her to Duke University and the University of North Carolina, where her interest in urology flourished. Reflecting on her career, she credits key mentors who guided her path, including Dr. Jay Smith, who invited her to participate in her first peer review. “They taught me to be curious, always seeking to answer important questions through clinical research,” she said.

Today, her NIH-funded research focuses on expanding access to therapies for overactive bladder, particularly for underserved populations. As an editor, she values creativity and curiosity. "Innovation takes many forms...While novel research approaches require creativity and imagination, they also push us beyond our comfort zones and bring us closer to practice-changing discoveries," she shared.
