Stanford Urology at the Korean Urological Association Meeting
Stanford Urology faculty members Geoffrey Sonn, MD, and Benjamin Chung, MD, recently participated in the Korean Urological Association (KUA) Annual Meeting, contributing to the scientific program through plenary presentations and educational sessions.
Dr. Sonn delivered a plenary lecture titled “The Opportunity for AI to Improve Prostate Cancer Detection and Treatment.” He outlined current advances in MRI- and ultrasound-based diagnosis and described how computational tools may strengthen clinical decision-making. He also led a resident review course on renal and ureteral tumors, with particular attention to current approaches in kidney cancer care.
Dr. Chung presented twice during the meeting. In the plenary session, he gave a semi-live single-port extraperitoneal robotic prostatectomy, highlighting key steps and technical considerations. His second presentation, “Active Surveillance of Prostate Cancer in Western Countries,” examined surveillance patterns in the U.S. and Europe and compared them with trends observed in Asian countries.
Reflecting on the experience, Dr. Chung notes the warm hospitality of the hosts and described the meeting as “Amazing hospitality, especially the sunset dinner on the Han River, and I appreciated the chance to visit Seoul’s historic districts and the palaces of the Joseon Dynasty.”
