Statement on the Supreme Court's Decision Overturning Roe v. Wade

The Department of Urology at the Stanford University School of Medicine condemns the recent Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe vs. Wade and the indispensable rights to privacy, bodily autonomy and reproductive freedom it had enshrined. We reject this intrusion of politics into the sanctity of the physician-patient relationship. We reject decisions made regarding healthcare that are devoid of scientific process and evidence. We reject this blatant disregard for an individual's inherent right to choose what to do with their own body.

Regardless of one's beliefs, abortion is healthcare. Abortion is a right. Reproductive freedom affects and protects everyone. This decision to do away with it will undoubtedly risk the lives of countless individuals, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds. As a department, we will not sit idly by as our patients, family members, colleagues, trainees, and communities locally and nationally are endangered by the downstream consequences of the Dobbs decision. We will work to advocate for the restoration of abortion rights in this country.

Talk about abortion, say the word abortion.

If you have friends or family in North Carolina or Illinois, consider asking them to host people traveling from out of state seeking abortion care as these are anticipated to be states with highest anticipated surge of patients
