Dr. Steven Lee Chang is a urologic oncologist affiliated with Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH)and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI) in Boston, Massachusetts. He holds the position of Associate Professor of Surgery at Harvard Medical School (HMS).

Dr. Chang earned his medical degree from Columbia University, College of Physicians & Surgeons, and completed his Urology residency training and Urologic Oncology fellowship at Stanford University Medical Center. His academic pursuits are marked by being an NIH-funded health services researcher in urologic oncology applying mathematical modeling and large database analytical techniques to optimize the perioperative management of urologic cancers, with a focus on minimizing their economic impact on the healthcare system. Additionally, Dr. Chang serves on the governing board of the Dana-Farber/Harvard Cancer Center (DF/HCC) Kidney Cancer SPORE. He actively engages in clinical trials and translational research within the DF/HCC Research Consortium.

Clinically, Dr. Chang serves as the Division Chief of Urologic Oncology at BWH, leading a team of nine urologic oncologists in collaboration with medical oncologists and radiation oncologists at the Lank Center for Genitourinary Oncology at DFCI. This collaboration has established BWH/DFCI as the highest volume center for genitourinary malignancies in New England. Additionally, Dr. Chang is the co-director of the Kidney Cancer Center, focusing primarily on the surgical management of patients with kidney cancer. His clinical expertise has garnered regional recognition, evidenced by the "Top Doctors of Boston" award since 2018, and numerous invited lectures on kidney cancer surgery at regional, national, and international meetings.

Dr. Chang's significant academic and clinical contributions extend to mentorship and training. Since joining the BWH faculty in 2010, he has advised numerous medical students at HMS, guiding them toward successful careers in urology. Dr. Chang has played a vital role in the urology residency at BWH, earning multiple resident teaching awards as well as a nomination for the American Urological Association Residents Committee Teaching Award. Notably, he serves as the co-program director for the SUO-accredited Combined Harvard Medical School Urologic Oncology Fellowship, contributing significantly to the training of urologic oncologists who have become prominent figures in urologic oncology in both academic and community settings.
