Charting New Frontiers: Stanford Urology and the German Schleswig-Holstein Delegation Forge Path in Digital Healthcare Evolution

Stanford Urology hosted an event on Friday, June 9, 2023, welcoming the German Schleswig-Holstein Delegation led by Minister President Daniel Günther. This meeting was an important chapter in the ongoing exchange and collaboration aimed at advancing the digital transformation within the field of Urology. Accompanying the delegation was Prof. Dr. Tillmann Loch, a former clinical fellow at Stanford Urology in the 1990’s under former chair Dr. Thomas Stamey. Dr. Loch is currently the chair of Urology at DIAKO University Teaching Hospital and Professor of Urology at Christian-Albrechts-University of Kiel in Germany.

Setting the stage for a day of insightful discussions, the event commenced with warm welcoming remarks from Stanford Urology Chair Dr. Eila Skinner, followed by introductory remarks by Minister-President Daniel Günther, emphasizing the importance of collaborative efforts in technological advancements within the medical field.

The event featured informative presentations by Dr. Tillmann Loch, Dr. Geoffrey Sonn, and Dr. Joseph Liao. Dr. Tillmann Loch delivered a presentation focusing on the revolutionary enhancement of ultrasound through the integration of AI, particularly highlighting remote instant prostate pathology. Dr. Geoffrey Sonn spoke about prostate cancer, while Dr. Joseph Liao delved into the intriguing area of AI applications in detecting and surgically addressing bladder cancer.

In recognition of the delegation's visit and invaluable contributions, a certificate was presented as a token of appreciation for their presence at Stanford University.

The event was concluded with an engaging walking tour for the delegation to explore and experience the Discovery Walk, Lokey Stem Cell Institute, and Stanford Hospital firsthand.
